Investigation into Common Errors in English Writing among Non-Academic Staff at a Malaysian Public University

The Malaysian government has long recognized the significance of mastering English language among its citizenry. planned, and subsequently, implemented many policies to ensure Malaysians master language. Although civil servants have a strong desire perform their duties more efficiently, poor communication skills become major concern in this regard. Therefore, research aims investigate common errors writing non-academic staff at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), public university Malaysia. study employed an Error Analysis approach by conducting document analysis where every respondent was required write paragraph about 150-200 words on topic“My greatest challenge as UniSZA officer”. findings revealed that sizeable number committed different types language, including related subject-verb agreement, passive voice, plurality, choice word, omission use article, tense sequence, word ordering, gerund, addition word/redundancy, comparison adjective. It observed lack linguistic skills, exposure, inadequate practices written were main factors contributing staff. These could help management develop appropriate programs can assist competence. However, is limited errors. Further may focus other such speaking listening.
